Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI assistant, is reportedly considering one of the largest private funding rounds in technology history. The AI startup has received several preemptive offers to raise around $40 billion to $50 billion at a valuation between $850 billion and $900 billion. If completed, the deal would more than double Anthropic’s previous valuation of $380 billion from February and could place it at or above OpenAI’s recent private market valuation.
Investor interest in Anthropic has reached an intense level because of the company’s rapid growth and strong position in the AI market. Earlier reports said Anthropic had received offers around an $800 billion valuation, but the company had not yet committed to raising more money. Now, sources say the pressure from investors has become difficult to ignore. A final decision on the round and its valuation is expected at a board meeting in May, and the company has declined to comment publicly on the discussions.
A major reason investors are interested is Anthropic’s fast-growing revenue. The company’s annual revenue run rate was about $9 billion at the end of 2025, but it has now surpassed $30 billion and may be closer to $40 billion, according to people familiar with the company’s financials. Enterprise customers are a major part of this growth, with businesses using Anthropic’s products for coding, workflow support, customer service, and data analysis. Reports also say more than 1,000 companies are spending over $1 million annually on Anthropic’s services.

Much of Anthropic’s revenue momentum comes from its AI coding tools, including Claude Code and Cowork. These platforms help developers complete coding tasks faster and support teams with project management and workflow automation. Investors also see major opportunities for Anthropic to expand beyond coding into industries such as finance, life sciences, healthcare, and cybersecurity. The company’s focus on safety and reliability may give it an advantage in these regulated fields, where accuracy and trust are especially important.
Another factor increasing investor demand is Mythos, Anthropic’s advanced cybersecurity model unveiled in April. Mythos has reportedly attracted attention from government officials, technology leaders, and banking executives, but scaling a model of that complexity requires enormous computing power. Anthropic has already secured major compute commitments from Amazon and Google, with Amazon agreeing to invest up to $25 billion and provide 5 gigawatts of compute capacity, while Google committed up to $40 billion and another 5 gigawatts. Even with those commitments, reports suggest Anthropic may need more capital
to purchase additional computing power directly.
The timing of the potential fundraise may also connect to Anthropic’s long-term plans for a public listing. Reports suggest this could be the company’s final private round before a possible IPO, with some sources saying a listing could come as early as October 2026. The round would also intensify Anthropic’s competition with OpenAI, which recently completed a record-breaking private funding round valued at $852 billion. Whether Anthropic can sustain the revenue growth needed to justify such a massive valuation remains a major question, but its rise shows how quickly the AI race is changing the future of technology, business, and investment.
