Amazon Alexa+ Uses AI to Turn Any Topic Into Custom Podcasts

Amazon’s latest Alexa+ update is turning the voice assistant into a personalized podcast creator. The new feature, called Alexa Podcasts, allows users in the United States to generate podcast-style audio episodes on almost any topic in just minutes. Instead of searching for a show, writing a script, or uploading documents, users can simply ask Alexa+ to create an episode about something they want to learn, follow, or explore.

The process is designed to be simple and conversational. After a user gives Alexa+ a topic, the assistant gathers relevant information and provides a quick overview of what the episode will cover. Users can then adjust the length, tone, and focus before the episode is created. Once the plan is approved, Alexa+ generates the recording using AI-generated host voices. When the episode is ready, users receive a notification on their Echo Show device and in the Alexa app.

Amazon says the feature can support a wide range of uses, from catching up on the day’s trending news to learning about history, travel, hobbies, sports, music, or career topics. A user could ask for an episode about the Roman Empire before a trip to Rome, a breakdown of the latest music releases, a lesson on the Apollo missions, or an introduction to a new hobby like sourdough baking, drone photography, or pickleball strategy. The goal is to make learning feel more natural and accessible, especially for people who prefer listening while commuting, cooking, relaxing, or moving around.

To support accuracy and up-to-date information, Amazon says Alexa+ draws from partnerships with major news and media organizations. These include the Associated Press, Reuters, The Washington Post, TIME, Forbes, Business Insider, Politico, USA Today, Condé Nast, Hearst, Vox Media, and more than 200 local newspapers across the United States. Amazon says these partnerships help Alexa+ turn large amounts of information into shorter, easier-to-understand audio lessons tailored to each user’s interests.

The launch also shows Amazon’s broader effort to make Alexa+ more than a traditional voice assistant. For years, Alexa has been used to answer questions, control smart home devices, play music, and help with simple tasks. With generative AI, Amazon is pushing Alexa+ toward a more creative and personalized role, where it can generate content, summarize information, and respond to users in more flexible ways. Amazon has also been expanding Alexa+ into other areas, including online shopping and food ordering through services like Grubhub and Uber Eats.

At the same time, Alexa Podcasts may raise questions about the future of media, accuracy, and AI-generated voices. Since the episodes are created by artificial intelligence, users may wonder how reliable the information is, especially for complex topics or breaking news.
